"Late laatste eer..." - article in De Telegraaf

back to the overview

A small group came to the church of Zevenbergen in Brabant to pay their last respects after five centuries to the watergeus Maximiliaan de Cock van Neerijnen. A mourning plaque was unveiled for this Protestant resistance fighter against the Spanish rule in the Netherlands, near the tombstone of his mother Anna van Zevenbergen and the mausoleum of his uncle and adversary, the Catholic Jean de Ligne. He was the Count of Arenberg and lord of Zevenbergen, remaining loyal to the Spanish king, Philip II.
